Field Target Match

  After a long winter season and several rainout and muddy road delays, we were finally able to hold our Season Opener. Being that we had to postpone several weeks in a row, it seems it had taken a toll on our turnout. This was the club's lowest turnout for a season opener and even enticement of free food could not bring out the old stalwarts. It's too bad because the day turned out to be excellent albeit a little cool. The cool weather certainly kept the mosquitoes at bay.  

The course was not quite typical fare for BAGA as the bad weather prevented regular target placement and pre-season preparations was at almost nil.However we still had our share of extra long shots and small KZ and included with a couple of gimmes...that is they would have been gimmes if some of us had not missed them so terribly.  

It was a very tight race amongst the top four contenders and even finished with a shoot-off for third place. The shoot-off target was really a bit out of range, but with our 5-shot shoot off format, provided for a quick decision. After all the dust was settled, the reigning US National FT Champ finish on top, just barely inching out Vlad and the rest of the 'top shooter gang'. Brandon as usual turned in a magnificent score with his trusty R-1 and shot his highest percentage to date. I guess it pays to switch out broken springs once in a while. He also amazed us with a bullwhip demonstration....boy those things are loud, maybe AZ has some sort of fitting for the end of it....LOL   I hope we will see many more of you at the next match or maybe even sooner for some late spring practice.
